These iconic lights were first installed in London in 1958, and they’ve been illuminating our streets ever since.
Designed by George Grey Wornum are a classic example of British street lighting.
The Wornum lights were inspired by the traditional Victorian-era gas lanterns that were prevalent in London during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Wornum lights were originally made of sheet steel, but they were later replaced with a lighter and more durable materials copper and aluminium.
They are typically 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide. The lanterns are made of Aluminium /Copper, and they are fitted with either tungsten filament lamps or high-pressure sodium lamps.Which we replace with Domestic lamps.
The Wornum lights were first installed in Westminster, London, but they were soon adopted by other cities and towns across the United Kingdom. They are still widely used today, and they are considered to be a classic example of British street lighting.
